ROYAL CHALLENGERS BANGALORE  vs DELHI DAREDEVILS, 5th Match - IPL

Venue: M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru
Date & Time: Apr 08,  08:00 PM  LOCAL

The Daredevils, another IPL old-timer without a title, have also been hit hard by a spate of fitness and illness concerns. Chief among them is the loss of Quinton de Kock, the architect of their victory with a destructive century in the corresponding fixture last season. JP Duminy is a notable absentee while Shreyas Iyer, down with a bout of chicken pox, will not be available for their season opener. To compound their woes, Rishabh Pant, who is grieving the sudden demise of his father, will join the squad in the 11th hour of the game.

But unlike Bangalore, the Daredevils aren't worn down by the pressure of expectations that comes with a star-studded line-up. For a side historically content with punching way above its weight, the current predicament only serves to present another opportunity to Delhi's young Indian batting turks - the Nairs and the Samsons - to grab the limelight.

But with youth and inexperience, comes a little rawness. Rahul Dravid and captain Zaheer Khan will look to offset that with their combined tactical nous and a free-spirited brand of cricket that almost carried them to the playoffs last season. If some of the unfancied names shine in the process, then all for the better.

When: Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Delhi Daredevils, April 8, 2017 - 20:00 IST

Where: M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru

What to expect: Pleasant evening with a slight possibility of showers late in the evening. The new state-of-the-art subsurface aeration and vacuum-powered drainage system should come in handy in the event of interruptions.

History: The head to head between these two sides in the IPL has seen a seismic shift in advantage. The Daredevils won five of their first six games against Royal Challengers. But since 2011, RCB have stormed ahead in the match-up, with Delhi's only subsequent win coming last year in this corresponding fixture.

Team News:

Royal Challengers Bangalore:

AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli batted in the nets two days out from the match. While regular captain Kohli is a certain non-starter, de Villiers will face a late fitness test before the match. Should he overcome his back niggle, he should come in for Travis Head to give a much-need boost to the top order. A three-prong left-arm seam attack gave the Royal Challengers a rather unidimensional look in the opener against Sunrisers. Head coach Daniel Vettori has voiced his desire to give Aniket Choudhary a long rope but could throw in an extra spinner - either Pawan Negi or Iqbal Abdulla - in place of Sreenath Arvind.

Probable XI: Chris Gayle, Mandeep Singh, Travis Head/AB de Villiers, Kedar Jadhav (wk), Shane Watson (c), Sachin Baby, Stuart Binny, Pawan Negi/Iqbal Abdulla, Tymal Mills, Yuzvendra Chahal, Aniket Choudhary

Delhi Daredevils:

The absence of Shreyas Iyer and potentially Rishabh Pant could mean Delhi end up playing a completely different opening combination than they might have originally envisioned. Coach Paddy Upton all but confirmed that Sam Billings will play at the top. Daredevils, however, are well-endowed in the bowling department. Amit Mishra did well in his last T20I game in Bengaluru against England and should command a starting spot alongside captain Zaheer and Mohammed Shami. Two foreign all-rounders and a toss-up between Kagiso Rabada and Pat Cummins should complete the eleven.

Probable XI: Rishabh Pant, Sam Billings, Karun Nair, Sanju Samson, Chris Morris, Carlos Brathwaite, Shahbaz Nadeem/Jayant Yadav, Amit Mishra, Mohammed Shami, Zaheer Khan (c), Kagiso Rabada/Pat Cummins
